Casting Nets Deeper,
Together

By RANDEL JOSEPH SERRANO

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” –Matthew 4:19 (NIV)

FEAST SANGANDAAN, which would become Feast Caloocan, started in the cinema of SM Center Sangandaan in 2016. But in March 2020, at the onslaught of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID) Pandemic, prohibiting mass gatherings to prevent spread of the disease, we transitioned to online session called Feast at Home. Two years later, restrictions started to ease up. In February 2022, we resumed our live session but in a different venue. The Chapel of Our Lady of The Most Holy Rosary in SM City Grand Central in Caloocan City became our new home. We stayed there for two years.

By early 2025, waves of circumstances led us to look for a new venue. Before we knew it, we were already having our first session of Feast Fisher Mall in Malabon City on May 4, 2025.

We started with a Holy Mass at 4:00 p.m. celebrated by Rev. Fr James Del Rosario and Rev.Fr Kennedy Neral.

A powerful Worship followed.

Fishing for Men

Bro. Arun Gogna, guest preacher, gave an enlightening talk centering on the theme Casting Net on the Other Side inspired by John 21:6.

Backgrounder: Following Jesus’ Crucifixion, Peter, along with other Apostles, went back to fishing at the Sea of Galilee– but catching no fish. Jesus, who had by then already Resurrected from death, appeared on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was the Lord.

Jesus told them: “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.”

When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Coincidentally, John 21 was also the Gospel Reading that day.

This moment of having The Feast at a different venue and time is like casting nets on the other side. It represents obedience to Jesus’ guidance, even when the disciples didn’t understand why it would work.

Sometimes, in life, we might be stuck or frustrated, but following God’s direction—even when it feels counterintuitive– can lead to breakthroughs.

What seemed like a fruitless effort can become abundant when we trust in God’s timing and wisdom. It’s an invitation to step outside our comfort zones and try something different to experience new results.

I believe that what is happening to us is not accident but Divine Providence. The name of our new venue speaks of our mission as Light of Jesus Family– and that is to Make Disciples.

Being fishers of men is about discipleship, guiding people to become followers of Christ, teaching them how to live out their faith, and helping them grow spiritually.

Challenge… and Glory!

In every blessing, however, there is a challenge. For now, we pray for an abundance of time, talent, and treasure. Our bigger venue requires more servants and more financial provision. Our new time and new place are an adjustment.

For the past eight years, our attendees were used to our 10:00 a.m. time slot in Caloocan City. Now, we start at 4:00 p.m. in Malabon City. The attendees should be well-informed of these pertinent details and what benefits these can bring them.

I adhere to the saying, “No Guts, no Glory.”

But I am more convinced that “No God, No Glory!”

When we acknowledge God’s sovereignty and His role in everything good, we understand that without Him, we wouldn’t experience any glory. Anything we accomplish, any success we have, is ultimately because of God’s grace, power, and purpose working in and through us.
