Reading 1 1 Cor 11:17-26, 33 Brothers and sisters:In giving this instruction, I do not praise the factthat your meetings are doing more harm than good.First of all, I hear that when you meet as a Churchthere are divisions among you,and to a degree I believe it;there have to be factions among youin order that also those who are approved among youmay become known. When you meet in one place, then,it is not to eat the Lord's supper, for in eating, each one goes ahead with his own supper, and one goes hungry while another gets drunk.Do you not have houses in which you can eat and drink?Or do you show contempt for the Church of Godand make those who have nothing feel ashamed? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you?In this matter I do not praise you.For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my Body that is for you.Do this in remembrance of me."In the same way also the cup, after supper, saying,"This cup is the new covenant in my Blood.Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me."For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup,you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. Responsorial Psalm Ps 40:7-8a, 8b-9, 10, 17 R. (1 Cor 11:26b) Proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes again.Sacrifice or oblation you wished not,but ears open to obedience you gave me.Burnt offerings or sin offerings you sought not;then said I, "Behold I come."R. Proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes again."In the written scroll it is prescribed for me,To do your will, O my God, is my delight, and your law is within my heart!"R. Proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes again.I announced your justice in the vast assembly;I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know.R. Proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes again.May all who seek youexult and be glad in youAnd may those who love your salvationsay ever, "The LORD be glorified."R. Proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes again. Alleluia Jn 3:16 R. Alleluia, alleluia.God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son,so that everyone who believes in him might have eternal life.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Lk 7:1-10 When Jesus had finished all his words to the people,he entered Capernaum.A centurion there had a slave who was ill and about to die,and he was valuable to him. When he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and save the life of his slave. They approached Jesus and strongly urged him to come, saying,"He deserves to have you do this for him,for he loves our nation and he built the synagogue for us."And Jesus went

Reading 1 1 COR 7:25-31 Brothers and sisters: In regard to virgins, I have no commandment from the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy. So this is what I think best because of the present distress: that it is a good thing for a person to remain as he is. Are you bound to a wife?  Do not seek a separation. Are you free of a wife?  Then do not look for a wife. If you marry, however, you do not sin, nor does an unmarried woman sin if she marries; but such people will experience affliction in their earthly life, and I would like to spare you that. I tell you, brothers, the time is running out. From now on, let those having wives act as not having them, those weeping as not weeping,  those rejoicing as not rejoicing, those buying as not owning, those using the world as not using it fully. For the world in its present form is passing away. Responsorial Psalm PS 45:11-12, 14-15, 16-17 R. (11) Listen to me, daughter; see and bend your ear.Hear, O daughter, and see; turn your ear, forget your people and your father’s house. So shall the king desire your beauty;for he is your lord, and you must worship him.R. Listen to me, daughter; see and bend your ear.All glorious is the king’s daughter as she enters;her raiment is threaded with spun gold.In embroidered apparel she is borne in to the king;behind her the virgins of her train are brought to you.R. Listen to me, daughter; see and bend your ear. They are borne in with gladness and joy;they enter the palace of the king. The place of your fathers your sons shall have;you shall make them princes through all the land.R. Listen to me, daughter; see and bend your ear.   Alleluia LK 6:23AB R. Alleluia, alleluia.Rejoice and leap for joy!Your reward will be great in heaven.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel LK 6:20-26 Raising his eyes toward his disciples Jesus said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours. Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven.   For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way. But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep. Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated the false  prophets in this way.”   - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition,

Reading 1 1 COR 4:1-5 Brothers and sisters:Thus should one regard us: as servants of Christand stewards of the mysteries of God. Now it is of course required of stewardsthat they be found trustworthy. It does not concern me in the leastthat I be judged by you or any human tribunal;I do not even pass judgment on myself;I am not conscious of anything against me,but I do not thereby stand acquitted;the one who judges me is the Lord. Therefore, do not make any judgment before the appointed time, until the Lord comes, for he will bring to light what is hidden in darknessand will manifest the motives of our hearts, and then everyone will receive praise from God. Responsorial Psalm PS 37:3-4, 5-6, 27-28, 39-40 R. (39a) The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.Trust in the LORD and do good, that you may dwell in the land and be fed in security.Take delight in the LORD,and he will grant you your heart’s requests.R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.Commit to the LORD your way;trust in him, and he will act.He will make justice dawn for you like the light;bright as the noonday shall be your vindication.R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.Turn from evil and do good, that you may abide forever; For the LORD loves what is right, and forsakes not his faithful ones.Criminals are destroyed and the posterity of the wicked is cut off.R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord. The salvation of the just is from the LORD;he is their refuge in time of distress. And the LORD helps them and delivers them;he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.R. The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.   Alleluia JN 8:12 R. Alleluia, alleluia.I am the light of the world, says the Lord;whoever follows me will have the light of life.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel LK 5:33-39 The scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus,“The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same;but yours eat and drink.”Jesus answered them, “Can you make the wedding guests fastwhile the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days.”And he also told them a parable.“No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one.Otherwise, he will tear the newand the piece from it will not match the old cloak.Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins.Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins. And no one who has been drinking old wine desires new,for he says, ‘The old is good.’” - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc.

Readings for the Memorial of the Passion of Saint John the BaptistReading 1 1 Cor 2:1-5 When I came to you, brothers and sisters, proclaiming the mystery of God,I did not come with sublimity of words or of wisdom. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with youexcept Jesus Christ, and him crucified.I came to you in weakness and fear and much trembling, and my message and my proclamationwere not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of spirit and power,so that your faith might rest not on human wisdombut on the power of God. Responsorial Psalm Ps 119:97, 98, 99, 100, 101, 102 R. (97) Lord, I love your commands. How I love your law, O LORD!It is my meditation all the day.R. Gospel Mk 6:17-29 Herod was the one who had John the Baptist arrested and bound in prisonon account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married.John had said to Herod,“It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”Herodias harbored a grudge against himand wanted to kill him but was unable to do so.Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man,and kept him in custody. When he heard him speak he was very much perplexed, yet he liked to listen to him.She had an opportunity one day when Herod, on his birthday, gave a banquet for his courtiers, his military officers, and the leading men of Galilee.Herodias’ own daughter came inand performed a dance that delighted Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl,“Ask of me whatever you wish and I will grant it to you.”He even swore many things to her,“I will grant you whatever you ask of me,even to half of my kingdom.”She went out and said to her mother,“What shall I ask for?”She replied, “The head of John the Baptist.”The girl hurried back to the king’s presence and made her request,“I want you to give me at onceon a platter the head of John the Baptist.”The king was deeply distressed, but because of his oaths and the guestshe did not wish to break his word to her.So he promptly dispatched an executioner with ordersto bring back his head.He went off and beheaded him in the prison. He brought in the head on a platter and gave it to the girl. The girl in turn gave it to her mother. When his

Reading 1 1 COR 1:17-25 Brothers and sisters: Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the Gospel, and not with the wisdom of human eloquence, so that the cross of Christ might not be emptied of its meaning. The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the learning of the learned I will set aside. Where is the wise one? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of the world foolish? For since in the wisdom of God the world did not come to know God through wisdom, it was the will of God through the foolishness of the proclamation to save those who have faith. For Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are called, Jews and Greeks alike, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength. Responsorial Psalm PS 33:1-2, 4-5, 10-11 R. (5) The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. Exult, you just, in the LORD; praise from the upright is fitting. Give thanks to the LORD on the harp; with the ten-stringed lyre chant his praises. R. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. For upright is the word of the LORD, and all his works are trustworthy. He loves justice and right; of the kindness of the Lord the earth is full. R. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. The LORD brings to nought the plans of nations; he foils the designs of peoples. But the plan of the LORD stands forever; the design of his heart, through all generations. R. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.     Alleluia LUKE 21:36 R. Alleluia, alleluia.Be vigilant at all times and pray, that you may have the strength to stand before the Son of Man.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel MT 25:1-13 Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The Kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.  Five of them were foolish and five were wise.  The foolish ones, when taking their lamps, brought no oil with them, but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps.  Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight, there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom!  Come out to meet him!’  Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.  The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’  But the wise ones replied, ‘No, for there

Reading 1 2 THES 2:1-3A, 14-17 We ask you, brothers and sisters, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our assembling with him, not to be shaken out of your minds suddenly, or to be alarmed either by a “spirit,” or by an oral statement, or by a letter allegedly from us to the effect that the day of the Lord is at hand. Let no one deceive you in any way. To this end he has also called you through our Gospel to possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours. May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.   Responsorial Psalm PS 96:10, 11-12, 13 R. (13b) The Lord comes to judge the earth. Say among the nations: The LORD is king. He has made the world firm, not to be moved; he governs the peoples with equity. R. The Lord comes to judge the earth. Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice; let the sea and what fills it resound; let the plains be joyful and all that is in them! Then shall all the trees of the forest exult. R. The Lord comes to judge the earth. Before the LORD, for he comes; for he comes to rule the earth. He shall rule the world with justice and the peoples with his constancy. R. The Lord comes to judge the earth.     Alleluia HEBREWS 4:12 R. Gospel MT 23:23-26 Jesus said: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. Readings for the Memorial of The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin MaryReading 1 2 Thes 1:1-5, 11-12 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to the Church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters, as is fitting, because your faith flourishes ever more, and the love of every one of you for one another grows ever greater. Accordingly, we ourselves boast of you in the churches of God regarding your endurance and faith in all your persecutions and the afflictions you endure. This is evidence of the just judgment of God, so that you may be considered worthy of the Kingdom of God for which you are suffering. We always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and powerfully bring to fulfillment every good purpose and every effort of faith, that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, in accord with the grace of our God and Lord Jesus Christ. Reading 1 EZ 37:1-14 The hand of the LORD came upon me, and led me out in the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the center of the plain, which was now filled with bones. He made me walk among the bones in every direction so that I saw how many they were on the surface of the plain. How dry they were! He asked me: Son of man, can these bones come to life? I answered, “Lord GOD, you alone know that.” Then he said to me: Prophesy over these bones, and say to them: Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: See! I will bring spirit into you, that you may come to life. I will put sinews upon you, make flesh grow over you, cover you with skin, and put spirit in you so that you may come to life and know that I am the LORD. I prophesied as I had been told, and even as I was prophesying I heard a noise; it was a rattling as the bones came together, bone joining bone. I saw the sinews and the flesh come upon them, and the skin cover them, but there was no spirit in them. Then the LORD said to me: Prophesy to the spirit, prophesy, son of man, and say to the spirit:  Thus says the Lord GOD From the four winds come, O spirit, and breathe into these slain that they may come to life. I prophesied as he told me, and the spirit came into them; they came alive and stood upright, a vast army. Then he said to me: Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They have been saying, “Our bones are dried up, our hope is lost, and we are cut off.” Therefore, prophesy and say to them: Thus says the Lord GOD: O my people, I will open your graves and have you rise from them, and bring you back to the land of Israel. Then you shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and have you rise from them, O my people! I will put my spirit in you that you may live, and I will settle you upon your land; thus you shall know that I am the LORD. I have promised, and I will do it, says the LORD. Responsorial Psalm PS 107:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 R. (1)  Give thanks to the Lord; his love is everlasting. Let the redeemed of the LORD say, those whom he has redeemed from the hand of the foe And gathered from the lands, from the east and the west, from the north and the south. R. Give thanks to the Lord; his love is everlasting. They went astray in the desert wilderness;  the way to an inhabited city they did not find. Hungry and thirsty, their life was wasting away within them. R. Give thanks to the

Reading 1 Jer 38:4-6, 8-10 In those days, the princes said to the king:"Jeremiah ought to be put to death;he is demoralizing the soldiers who are left in this city, and all the people, by speaking such things to them;he is not interested in the welfare of our people, but in their ruin." King Zedekiah answered: "He is in your power";for the king could do nothing with them. And so they took Jeremiahand threw him into the cistern of Prince Malchiah, which was in the quarters of the guard, letting him down with ropes. There was no water in the cistern, only mud,and Jeremiah sank into the mud.Ebed-melech, a court official, went there from the palace and said to him:"My lord king, these men have been at faultin all they have done to the prophet Jeremiah, casting him into the cistern. He will die of famine on the spot, for there is no more food in the city." Then the king ordered Ebed-melech the Cushiteto take three men along with him,and draw the prophet Jeremiah out of the cistern beforehe should die. Responsorial Psalm Ps 40:2, 3, 4, 18 R. Lord, come to my aid!The LORD heard my cry.He drew me out of the pit of destruction, out of the mud of the swamp;he set my feet upon a crag; he made firm my steps.R. Lord, come to my aid!And he put a new song into my mouth, a hymn to our God.Many shall look on in awe and trust in the LORD.R. Reading 2 Heb 12:1-4 Brothers and sisters:Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to usand persevere in running the race that lies before uswhile keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before himhe endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners,in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart. In your struggle against sinyou have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood. Reading 1 Ez 18:1-10, 13b, 30-32 The word of the LORD came to me:Son of man, what is the meaning of this proverbthat you recite in the land of Israel:"Fathers have eaten green grapes, thus their children's teeth are on edge"?As I live, says the Lord GOD:I swear that there shall no longer be anyone among youwho will repeat this proverb in Israel. For all lives are mine;the life of the father is like the life of the son, both are mine;only the one who sins shall die.If a man is virtuous—if he does what is right and just,if he does not eat on the mountains, nor raise his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel;if he does not defile his neighbor's wife, nor have relations with a woman in her menstrual period;if he oppresses no one, gives back the pledge received for a debt, commits no robbery;if he gives food to the hungry and clothes the naked;if he does not lend at interest nor exact usury;if he holds off from evildoing, judges fairly between a man and his opponent;if he lives by my statutes and is careful to observe my ordinances, that man is virtuous—he shall surely live, says the Lord GOD.But if he begets a son who is a thief, a murderer,or lends at interest and exacts usury–this son certainly shall not live.Because he practiced all these abominations, he shall surely die;his death shall be his own fault. Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, each one according to his ways, says the Lord GOD.Turn and be converted from all your crimes, that they may be no cause of guilt for you.Cast away from you all the crimes you have committed, and make for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. Why should you die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies, says the Lord GOD. Create a clean heart in me, O God.Give me back the joy of your salvation, and a willing spirit sustain in me.I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners shall return to you.R.
