The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity 1st Reading – Exodus 34:4B-6, 8-9 Moses cut two more stone tablets, and early the next morning he carried them up Mount Sinai, just as the LORD had commanded. The LORD came down in a cloud, stood with him there, and pronounced his holy name, the LORD. The LORD then passed in front of him and called out, “I, the LORD, am a God who is full of compassion and pity, who is not easily angered and who shows great love and faithfulness. Moses quickly bowed down to the ground and worshipped. He said, “Lord, if you really are pleased with me, I ask you to go with us. These people are stubborn, but forgive our evil and our sin, and accept us as your own people.”   Responsorial Psalm – Daniel 3:52, 53, 54, 55, 56 R. (52b) Glory and praise for ever! Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers, praiseworthy and exalted above all forever; And blessed is your holy and glorious name, praiseworthy and exalted above all for all ages. R. Glory and praise for ever! Blessed are you in the temple of your holy glory, praiseworthy and glorious above all forever. R. Glory and praise for ever! Blessed are you on the throne of your kingdom, praiseworthy and exalted above all forever. R. Glory and praise for ever! Blessed are you who look into the depthsfrom your throne upon the cherubim, praiseworthy and exalted above all forever. R. Glory and praise for ever!   2nd Reading – 2 Corinthians 13:11-13 And now, my brothers and sisters, goodbye! Strive for perfection; listen to my appeals; agree with one another; live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All God’s people send you their greetings. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.   Alleluia – CF. Revelation 1:8 R. Alleluia, alleluia.Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit;to God who is, who was, and who is to come.R. Alleluia, alleluia.   Gospel – John 3:16-18 For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to be its judge, but to be its saviour. Those who believe in the Son are not judged; but those who do not believe have already been judged, because they have not believed in God’s only Son. Today's Readings Homilies Love Offering:

Memorial of Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions, Martyrs 1st Reading – Sirach 51:12CD-20 I thank you and praise you. O Lord, I praise you! When I was still young, before I started out on my travels, I boldly prayed for Wisdom. I went to the Temple and asked for her, and I will look for her as long as I live. From my blossoming youth to my ripe old age she has been my delight. I have followed directly in her path ever since I was young. In the short time I paid heed, I met with great instruction. Since in this way I have profited, I will give my teacher grateful praise. I became resolutely devoted to her the good I persistently strove for. I fought for Wisdom and was strict in my conduct. When I prayed, I sadly confessed how far short of Wisdom I fell. But I was determined to have her, and I found her by keeping myself free from sin. I have grown in Wisdom since first I found her, and I will never be without her.   Responsorial Psalm – Psalms 19:8, 9, 10, 11 R. (9ab) The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart. The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul. The decree of the LORD is trustworthy, giving wisdom to the simple. R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart. The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart. The command of the LORD is clear, enlightening the eye. R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart. The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; The ordinances of the LORD are true, all of them just. R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart. They are more precious than gold, than a heap of purest gold;Sweeter also than syrupor honey from the comb. R. The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.   Alleluia – Colossians 3:16A, 17C R. Alleluia, alleluia.Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly;giving thanks to God the Father through him.R. Alleluia, alleluia.   Gospel – Mark 11:27-33 They arrived once again in Jerusalem. As Jesus was walking in the Temple, the chief priests, the teachers of the Law, and the elders came to him and asked him, “What right have you to do these things? Who gave you this right?” Jesus answered them, “I will ask you just one question, and if you give me an answer, I will tell you what right I have to do these things. Tell me, where did John’s right to baptize come from: was it from God or from human beings?” They started to argue among themselves: “What shall we say? If we answer, ‘From God,’ he will say, ‘Why, then, did you not believe John?’ But if we say, ‘From human beings… ‘ ” (They were afraid of the people, because everyone was convinced that John had been a prophet.) So their answer to Jesus was, “We don’t know.” Jesus said to

Bishops: Respect land titles of Ati tribe in Boracay

2023-06-03T05:01:16+08:00

Bishop Jose Corazon Tala-oc, CBCP-ECIP Visayas Bishop-in-Charge. DIOCESE OF KALIBO By CBCP News June 2, 2023 Manila, Philippines The country’s Catholic bishops on Friday appealed for “honor and respect” to the land titles awarded by the government to the Ati tribe of Boracay Island in 2018. The bishops’ Episcopal Commission on Indigenous Peoples (ECIP) backs the position that the Certificate of Land Ownership Awards (CLOAS) of the Atis are “just”. “We uphold that the Atis are the legitimate owner of these CLOAs (certificate of land ownership award),” said Bishop Jose Corazon Tala-oc of Kalibo and ECIP Visayas bishop-in-charge. “We hope the previous predicament faced by the Boracay Atis pertaining to their land will not happen again,” he said. The ECIP particularly addressed their call to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and private developers in the famous tourist island. The IPs who are agrarian reform beneficiaries face the risk of losing their lands awarded to them during the Duterte administration over claims for being “unsuitable” for agriculture. But Tala-oc contradicted the claim saying several members of Ati community are currently tilling the land awarded to them, “while producing agricultural crops that are source of their sustenance and livelihood.” “The Boracay Atis are crying for justice, and we are with them,” he said. Lipa archdiocese to create 6 new parishes

2023-06-03T05:01:14+08:00

Archbishop Gilbert Garcera of Lipa. ARCHDIOCESE OF LIPA By CBCP News June 2, 2023 Manila, Philippines Archbishop Gilbert Garcera of Lipa has announced plans to establish six new parishes in the archdiocese. Garcera, in a recent circular, said the move is “in response to the pastoral needs of the growing population in the archdiocese”, which covers the whole province of Batangas. The new parishes will be erected in Brgy. Laiya in San Juan town, in Brgy. Dacanlao in Calaca City, and in Brgy. Pinagbayanan in Taysan town. The three others will be established in Brgy. Anilao in Mabini town, in Brgy. Manghinao in Bauan town, and in Brgy. Natunuan in San Jose town. The archbishop instructed all parish priests, who until now have jurisdiction over the said villages, to begin the necessary preparations for the creation of the new parishes. He said these may include education of the faithful through catechesis and evangelization sessions until a priest-in-charge is appointed. First created as a diocese in 1910, it was elevated into its present status in 1972, or 50 years ago. The archdiocese covers the suffragan provinces of Boac, Gumaca, Lucena, and the Prelature of Infanta. To date, the archdiocese comprises 66 parishes and is divided into 14 vicariates. Friday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time 1st Reading – Sirach 44:1, 9-13 So let us now give praise to godly men, our ancestors of generations past, There are others who are not remembered, as if they had never lived, they died and were forgotten, they, and their children after them. But we will praise these godly men, whose righteous deeds have never been forgotten. Their wealth remains in their families, their heritage with their descendants; Their descendants continue to keep the covenant and always will, because of what their ancestors did. Their family line will go on for ever, and their fame will never fade.   Responsorial Psalm – Psalms 149:1B-2, 3-4, 5-6A AND 9B R. (see 4a) The Lord takes delight in his people.or:R. Alleluia. Alleluia, alleluia.   Gospel – Mark 11:11-26 Jesus entered Jerusalem, went into the Temple, and looked round at everything. But since it was already late in the day, he went out to Bethany with the twelve disciples. The next day, as they were coming back from Bethany, Jesus was hungry. He saw in the distance a fig tree covered with leaves, so he went to see if he could find any figs on it. But when he came to it, he found only leaves, because it was not the right time for figs. Jesus said to the fig tree, “No one shall ever eat figs from you again!” And his disciples heard him. When they arrived in Jerusalem, Jesus went to the Temple and began to drive out all those who were buying and selling. He overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the stools of those who sold pigeons, He did not permit anyone to carry anything through the temple area. Then he taught them saying, “Is it not written: My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples? But you have made it a den of thieves.” The chief priests and the scribes came to hear of it and were seeking a way to put him to death, yet they feared him because the whole crowd was astonished at his teaching. When evening came, they went out of the city.

WATCH: This is Pope Francis’ prayer intention for the month of June

2023-06-02T05:01:21+08:00

By Francesca Pollio Fenton Catholic News Agency June 1, 2023 Pope Francis’ prayer intention for the month of June is for the abolition of torture. “Torture is not past history. Unfortunately, it’s part of our history today,” Pope Francis said in a video released May 30. “How is it possible that the human capacity for cruelty is so huge?” he questioned. “There are extremely violent forms of torture. Others are more sophisticated, such as degrading someone, dulling the senses, or mass detentions in conditions so inhumane that they take away the dignity of the person.” The pope reminded the faithful that this is not something new. He urged everyone to “think of how Jesus himself was tortured and crucified.” He added: “Let us put a stop to this horror of torture. It is essential to put the dignity of the person above all else. Otherwise, the victims are not persons, they are ‘things’ and can be mistreated mercilessly, causing death or permanent psychological and physical harm lasting a lifetime.” Pope Francis concluded his message with a prayer: “Let us pray that the international community commit itself concretely to abolish torture, guaranteeing support to victims and their families.” Pope Francis’ prayer video is promoted by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, which raises awareness of monthly papal prayer intentions. Centuries-old Romblon Cathedral rectory gutted by fire

The aftermath of the fire that destroyed the rectory of the St. Joseph Cathedral in Romblon, Romblon. PHOTO COURTESY OF THE DIOCESE OF ROMBLON By CBCP News June 1, 2023 Manila, Philippines A fire ripped through the centuries-old rectory of St. Joseph Cathedral in Romblon diocese recently, destroying canonical books and other important documents. Bishop Narciso Abellana of Romblon said the fire, which broke out in the early morning of May 27, razed down almost everything except the structure’s old stone pillars. “It is, indeed, a tragedy… All the canonical books and other records were turned to ashes,” Abellana said in a statement released May 31. The rectory, which also housed the parish office, was declared a national cultural treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines. It also played host to the temporary museum of the diocese, keeping several religious artifacts from the different parishes. “Our link to the past was eaten by fire,” he lamented. Amid plans to rebuild the convent, the bishop also made a public appeal for generosity that will help them reconstruct the rectory. He particularly asked the faithful to support the second collection to be conducted in all Sunday Masses this whole month June for the project. Put down your phone during Mass, bishop reminds Catholics

2023-06-02T05:01:14+08:00

Bishop Francisco De Leon during Mass at the Antipolo Cathedral on May 31, 2023. CBCP NEWS By Roy Lagarde June 1, 2023 Manila, Philippines A Catholic bishop has a reminder for Catholics: Focus on God during Mass and not on your smartphone. Bishop Francisco de Leon, now the apostolic administrator of the Antipolo diocese, urged churchgoers not to take their focus away from the Eucharist, who is Jesus Christ “present in the here and now”. “Instead of paying attention to what is happening in the Mass, you will miss it,” De Leon said. “And by not paying attention to the present, like the Holy Mass, you will miss Him.” He made the statement before the final blessing of the Mass presided over by Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, CBCP President, on the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Mother yesterday evening. The occasion had also been designated by Pope Francis as a special day of prayer for the upcoming Synod on Synodality in the Vatican. The pope on May 24 accepted the resignation of De Leon from the pastoral leadership of the diocese after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75. He, however, will continue to serve as apostolic administrator of the diocese until Bishop Ruperto Santos, currently the bishop of Balanga, is installed as his successor. De Leon served Antipolo for the past 16 years — nine years as auxiliary bishop and seven years as bishop. Memorial of Saint Justin, Martyr 1st Reading – Sirach 42:15-25 Now I will remind you of the works of the Lord and describe the things I have seen. The words of the Lord brought his works into being, and the whole creation obeys his commands. The light of the sun shines down on everything, and everything is filled with the Lord’s glory. Not even to his holy angels has the Lord given power to describe all his mighty deeds, even though he has given them power to stand unharmed in his glorious presence. He sees into the oceans and into the human heart, and he knows the secrets of both. The Most High knows everything that can be known and understands the signs of the ages. He knows all that has ever been and all that ever will be; he uncovers the deepest of mysteries. He takes notice of our every thought and hears our every word. The orderly world shows the greatness of his wisdom; he is the same for ever and ever. Nothing can be added to him, and nothing taken away; he needs no one to give him advice. All his works are beautiful, down to the smallest and faintest spark of light. The universe lives and abides forever; to meet each need, each creature is preserved. All of them differ, one from another, yet none of them has he made in vain, Everything completes the goodness of something else. Could anyone ever see enough of this splendour?   Responsorial Psalm – Psalms 33:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 R. (6a) By the word of the Lord the heavens were made. Give thanks to the LORD on the harp;with the ten-stringed lyre chant his praises.Sing to him a new song;pluck the strings skillfully, with shouts of gladness. R. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made. For upright is the word of the LORDand all his works are trustworthy. He loves justice and right;of the kindness of the LORD the earth is full. R. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made. By the word of the LORD the heavens were made;by the breath of his mouth all their host.He gathers the waters of the sea as in a flask;in cellars he confines the deep. R. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made. Let all the earth fear the LORD;let all who dwell in the world revere him.For he spoke, and it was made;he commanded, and it stood forth. R. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made.   Alleluia – John 8:12 R. Alleluia, alleluia.I am the light of the world, says the Lord;whoever follows me will have the light of life.R. Alleluia, alleluia.   Gospel – Mark 10:46-52 They came to Jericho, and as Jesus was leaving with his disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus son of Timaeus was sitting by the road begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began
