The Catholic bishops’ pastoral arm for people on the move called on the Philippine government to ensure justice for Jullebee Ranara, an overseas Filipino worker who was killed in Kuwait.

The Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People (ECMI) asked officials to do everything possible to bring justice for the 35-year-old domestic worker.

“We strongly urge our government officials to exhaust all the ways and means to attain justice for Jullebee,” the ECMI said.

“All perpetrators must be swiftly investigated, prosecuted,” it added. “They should be held accountable for her death. Blood is on their hands.”

Ranara’s body arrived in the Philippines on Friday night.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, the burnt remains of Ranara were found in a desert on Jan. 21.

The suspect – her employer’s 17-yer-old son – is already under police custody.

The ECMI then asked the government “to be more vigilant to protect our OFWs, defend their rights and promote their dignity”.

The church migrants ministry also said it would be offering Masses for Ranara and her loved ones.

“We will also ask our Chaplains to do the same for the eternal rest of Jullebee Ranara. May she find comfort and peace with God,” the ECMI said.

“May our God strengthen her family and grant to them the necessary graces and gifts for their good and secured life,” it added.
